Facebook the new face of Fascism?
Some may concider it communism, but that's up to you.
Anyways, it's no secret that amoungst people my age Email and Cellphones are dead, and facebook killed it. I'm sure many of you have heard of it, and probably have it, and I'm not calling you people evil, just that you are supporting evil.
Now, now, before you blame me for causing you to wet your pants in anger listen to what I have to say. I would say about a good 90% of the people I know have a Facebook account, and it is the only way they ever talk to their friends. They always make plans, chit-chat, and whatever else teens do these days. Seems like nothing to complain about, pretty good way to keep in touch with people.
However what about the other 10% of the people? Simple, we are shunned from society, no one ever includes us in any plans, when we try to invite them they never respond because they only use Facebook, not email or cell phones anymore. It seems Facebook people even have some sort of hate towards people with out it. A good example is the several times people have asked me " Do you have face book" and after I say "No, I have a cell phone and email, that's enough for me" they say " Oh, nevermind then, talk to me when you get one" and go off to talk to people who have Facebook.
Now I know what you are saying, " Oh just suck it up and sign up" but the point of this isn't that I don't want to sign up, it's that I can't believe people are seperating into two groups and excluding eachother based on what they are signed up to. It makes me sick to see how people force eachother to do what they do in order to fit in, which I guess would make it more like Communism than Facism... but you get the point, it's evil either way.
Facebook, the new gateway drug to being a total jerk-off.
Discuss, feel free to defend facebook or make points against it.

Facebook is just a lesser version of myspace... The downfall of facebook was when it started letting high schoolers in it. And then everyone started using it...
Was much better off when it was only a select number of colleges.

Gaara,
You make some good points at describing how facebook is making our generation of people less intelligent, and more clingy towards the internet, but in all fairness you're being bias by only pointing out one website. You could say people are becoming mindless internet junkies by using various programs and internet websites such as: AIM, MSN, My Space, etc. I know people, much like you do, who refuse to talk to anyone unless it's via a third party such as Yahoo messenger, but I don't think these programs and websites are totally "evil" as you put it. These sites and programs are good for people who have no friends, and are looking for a way to communicate with other people their age. I don't have a facebook, but I do have a My Space, and I know how addicting it can be which is why I stopped using it for a long time. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a communist, fascist, whatever type of thing, because while it is true there is a lot of bad "stuff" on these websites, there is also a lot of good.

Totally Agree. It's like the mindset that all the cool kids have facebook. I hate that.
I have a facebook but the only reason I did get it is to stay in touch with some people from my class that are going across the country for college. It's not life or the main form of communication but when I don't want to spend money making long distance calls, I can always post/e-mail on facebook since I know they'll check it pretty regularly.
Basically, the exclusion does suck but the most important thing to remember is:
Do what you want no matter what people think. Because those who care don't matter and those who matter don't care.
Good friends won't care or exclude you. Meet people, become good friends and I guarantee they'll call you. I didn't have a facebook during high school. I went out every night since everyone that I was good friends with always called me when people got something going through facebook or otherwise.

Everyone I know still uses cell phones. Why? Because you can't plan things at the last minute using Facebook.

Yup I agree with Unien. I have a facebook but I don't make plans that aren't already in the works. Recently I made plans with a friend to come hang out this weekend BUT that is because 1.) he lives in a city that is an hour and a half away and 2.) I am busy almost all day so there is no time I can really call him. We will still end up working out the finite details later over a cell phone. Facebook is just a way to keep in touch with friends that go to different COLLEGES. Gawd, letting High Schoolers use it just made it a more Stalkerish Myspace. But anywho, Facebook has not killed people social life. You don't need one to survive. If you do in your community you might want to look elsewhere for real friends.

Well I would have targeted stuff like msn, but I didn't get a cell phone until after graduation and my sisters never got off the phone so it was really the only way for me to talk to my friends since whenever I knocked on their doors they were busy.
Non of my friends have a myspace so I don't really have beef with that, and I was never excluded for not having a Nex... for whatever reason. It just seems like Facebook has turned everyone into a community that is better than people who don't use facebook, kind of like that episode of South Park with the Hybrid cars, I am starting to see overwhelming amounts of "smug." I would get it, but I don't really see the point of it, all my friends do is poke eachother and throw sheep or something weird like that, all sounds like flirting to me so I'd rather stay away from that.
Here is the weird thing, I talked to some of my friends about it and none of them even like it, they find it very annoying because people are always poking them and leaving them pointless messages... seems like they just wanted to fit in.
Oh well, to wrap up this short story I am still thinking about if I should sign up and threaten people to not bother me, or just do what I did grades 8-11, sit here and not talk to the outside world (Grade 12 and after grad people started talking to me for some reason.) I still think it is pure evil though.

I noticed the same things as Ultimate_Gaara. Sometimes I ask someone what their myspace is and they snobilly tell me they only use facebook. I just can't be asked to keep up with a million social networking sites and blogs WTF. And yes even all teh cute girls that tempt me to join have failed STFU and call me if you want me to come out with you.

Guess what ... Real people... with Jobs... have cell phones and email because their jobs require it. EMAIL and CELL PHONES are going nowhere.
Something to think about.

Facebook is a Fad.
Fads die very quickly and suddenly. Cellphones and Emails will last for a long time but not facebook.
Be patient and it'll disappear.

Facebook has been around for several years now, I don't think it's going to just up and die suddenly.

It won't die, something new will replace it, that's what happend to Myspace, it got replaced by Nexopia, then Nex got replaced by Facebook.
Just another reason I don't want to join, sooner or later I would have to join something else to keep up with them.
